Description

GRAFMETAL metal etching (matting) paste is used for etching i.e. local removal and roughening of metal surfaces, such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper or brass.

GRAFMETAL Metal etching paste allows a small amount of metal to be removed locally, resulting in a permanently engraved pattern on the surface of metal, which cannot be rubbed off or rinsed off.

Metal etching paste is used as follows:

  • Apply a mask to the metal object: it can be a cut sticker from adhesive film or you can apply tape, film or metal spray paint to the metal, and then engrave a design in it with a laser

  • Using a plastic or wooden spatula, apply the paste to the parts to be etched

  • After 10 to 60 minutes, the paste is rinsed with water and the mask is removed

Caution, the paste is a dangerous product not intended for children, it is recommended to work with gloves and provide eye protection. The fumes of the paste may lead to corrosion of metals, so use it in well-ventilated areas so that nothing can get damaged.

CNC lasers are also suitable for making a mask. One may use many methods for this purpose, such as applying metal spray paint to an object and then engraving a pattern in it with a laser.

The paste can also be applied by hand, for example, with a toothpick, spatula or brush, thanks to which one may obtain permanent metal engraving without the use of a mask.

The paste can be used to mark many different types of metals, such as steels, stainless steels, aluminum and copper alloys. The paste is not suitable for precious metals such as gold.

Distinct etching effects are obtained not only, on smooth and glossy surfaces, but also on metals with matte, brushed, or rough finishing.

Metal etching paste makes it possible to obtain engravings on big surfaces.

It is also possible to obtain engravings on other objects.

The effect of etching depends on the type of metal and its surface texture, so the etching procedure should be refined experimentally for a given type of component and for a given type of mask. Advice on etching and mask application can be found in the instructions supplied with the product.
The product is chemically aggressive.
